The Town of Goshen is located in central Orange County and has a resident population of 13,500.  During the normal business week, the population could increase to 30,000+ being that Goshen is the County Seat.  The Town of Goshen is approximately 3 miles southeast of the City of Middletown.  New York State Route 17 (future Interstate 86) runs directly through the center of the Town of Goshen.  Other major arterials that run through the Town are State Route 17A, State Route 17M and State Route 94.

The Town of Goshen Police Department currently has 21 sworn officers which consist of a Chief of Police, two Sergeants, one Investigator and seventeen Patrolmen. 

The Department is currently dispatched by the Orange County E-911 center which has 41 sworn civil service personnel, 14 part-time civilian personnel and 6 sworn civil service supervisors.
